Review of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) by Tania G — 31 Jul 2012
I am not usually keen on viewing the same film over again, but there are some exceptions, whether it was a great experience initially or not. "Tinker Tailor Solider Spy" is one of those puzzling films that I thought I needed to see again.
Well, in my second turn I actually lost patience and started gliding through it. What I thought to be a clever picture is actually quite flawed in its writing; the characters are not well written, and a few are just used and forgotten.
I won't bother looking for names. Gary Oldman is wonderfully composed; he is really the main component. A number of scenes do not really make sense to me or I just had a difficult time concentrating on what was going on.
Nevertheless, while I was skimming through, I was able to recall from my first viewing, so I have a pretty good idea on what generally happened. Whether it was poor writing or a cleverly written screenplay, the conclusion is highly disappointing.
Aside from Oldman, the rest of the performances are not much to be hopeful about. We never really learn anything about any of the characters; most of them are one dimensional. As always from an adequate picture there are some quality scenes (and good cinematography), "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy" is no exception.
