Review of Timeline (2014) by Claire B — 24 Aug 2008
Some people accuse me of being too critical of movies here, and perhaps I am. However I am going to throw this movie a bone here, as I went in with relatively low expectations and found myself fascinated almost from start to finish.
To be sure, it is not a perfect film, there are plenty of flaws that most will spot easily. There are some classic sci-fi movie esque flaws (oh noes! we've had a malfunction with our futuristic equipment, what do we do now?) I still found myself surprised on numerous occasions. I suppose Crichton should get a lot of the credit for the storyline, note that this review is coming from someone who has NOT read the book so weigh that accordingly. It handles time travel quite reasonably well, and despite some occasionally shoddy acting by the main characters I found the supporting actors to be stronger than I expected.
It breaks enough of the guidelines for making these kind of movies to keep you guessing. Certainly not Oscar worthy by any means, but it should entertain. Recommended to just about anyone.
