Review of Time Bandits (1981) by Jon N — 15 Jul 2008
If I were 9 years old instead of 22, I feel like I would've adored this movie. As it stands, though, some of its luster is lost with my youth behind me. That isn't to say that it is not an enjoyable film -- it certainly is.
A time-traveling band of midgets that draw their sartorial inspiration from vastly different eras that shanghai a little British boy into stealing from history's great figures is enjoyable for anyone regardless of age.
The film was also fairly dark for a family fantasy movie, which was kind of neat. I will say I was a little disheartened by Gilliam's views regarding technology, though (unless I missed the part where it was all tongue in cheek).
Anyways, if I ever have a kid(s) I will definitely be adding this to my library and showing them.
