Review of Time Bandits (1981) by Robert H — 04 Sep 2010
Gotta love Terry Gilliam's films. In fact, this may be my fav next to Holy Grail. I know it's not Brazil or Fear and Loathing but it has this innocence about it that makes it fun for the whole family. I always wanted to be that kid traveling through time seeing all the most amazing things having the grandest adventure. The costumes in this film are stupendous and Sean Connery as Agamemnon is just too awesome. Hell the entire cast is amazing. John Cleese, Ian Holm, Shelley Duvall, and a whole bunch of others makes the acting in this wacky film work. There is no major over acting... except maybe for Robin Hood... and when the cast does step it up a bit, it's all in the name of fantasy. Gilliam knows when too much is too much and when too much is just enough. Brilliant, just brilliant.
Screw Bill & Ted, as fun as they were, they were no Time Bandits.
