Review of Time Bandits (1981) by Neum D — 29 Jan 2010
A comedy-fantasy that is satisfying for kids and adults, one of my all-time favorites. The insecure technocrat and the forgetful schoolmaster are the most memorable portrayals of Evil and God in the history of the movies.
The schoolboy hero is a "chin up, stiff upper" lip optimist of whom every Brit can be proud. Contrary to some reviews, I think this movie is surprising and funny in a "Princess Bride" sort of way.
This movie and "Twelve Monkeys" are the standard to which all Terry Gilliam films are compared.
