Review of Time After Time (2011) by Klaudio P — 22 Jun 2008
"H.G. Wells races through time to catch Jack the Ripper!" Well, I couldn't resist a tagline like that. What a great idea, what possibilities! Unfortunately the idea is pretty well unexplored with Director Nicholas Meyer even saying in his commentary that he wasn't really interested in the history of Jack the Ripper except as a representation of evil.
Problem is that means the characters could really be anyone and they feel like rejected attempts from Doctor Who. Even Malcolm McDowell, usually so hard to ignore comes up with a hero who is so wishy washy that you have to cheer for the villain.
Must have been a hoot when released (I probably would have loved it as a kid) but certainly doesn't stand the test of time.
