Review of Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012) by Keldon M — 04 Mar 2012
Given the chance to stretch a Tim and Eric episode out for 90 minutes, the duo makes very good use of exploring their dark, parody world of awful and hilarious advertisements, Non sequitur scenes, and awkward editing.
It's been a while since i've laughed so hard at the movies, half the audience was sharing the enjoyment while the other half stared uncomfortably. I expected this, but I don't think the whole " you either get the humor or don't" argument works, it's clear that they're mocking american culture. Whether you laugh or not depends on how you react to deadpan comedy and "anti humor".
But I would be lying if I said this movie's elements work as intended. Fans of the show might dislike the skits being sacrificed to make a more complete story. The last 2 thirds of the film take place in a mall, making this and Observe and Report a toss up for 'darkest mall comedy'.
The cameo's are fun, a fake penis is pierced, and Will Ferrel makes the guys watch Top Gun... twice.
The dedicated fans might try to convince you the humor is over your head, but the truth is, comedy is subjective and you can't convert everyone.
