Review of Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012) by Chris I — 02 Jan 2014
Criticizing this movie is like criticizing performance art; self criticism is already woven throughout the piece itself. There's not much to say about it; just walk away and think. This is a bold statement about such a ridiculously terrible movie. I'm still glad I saw it.
On a more practical note, this was a very angry film. Constant profanity, screaming, and violence often didn't carry off as comedy. Mostly it just seemed like anger. But who's to say that wasn't the intent?
It was also surprising that none of the popular characters from the Awesome Show Great Job made appearances. Especially puzzling since the actors who played those characters were present, and playing relatively forgettable parts. Is the word "taquito" really funny enough to largely carry a main character through a film? And where the hell was Bob Odenkirk?
It seemed like Tim & Eric almost went out of their way to be sure that the movie wasn't that "good" for lack of a better word; maybe commercial would be better? 5 minutes of Dr. Brule, or the Gravy Robbers, or the Beaver Boys, would have gone a very long way towards rescuing this bleak surreal film from itself.
Regardless, I'm pretty loyal to these assholes. I hope they make a sequel. Or better yet, a Tom Goes to the Mayor movie.
