Review of Tightrope (1984) by Kyle M — 11 Jan 2010
The first five minutes had me questioning whether I'd be able to survive through the rest of this movie. The stereotypical, cliche scene of a lonely woman being followed by a mysterious pair of shoes did not give me a lot of confidence for the remainder of the movie. It turns out that I wasn't too far off base.
A movie rife with cliche and action sequences, which were few and far between and a ridiculously slow pace only served to make this movie seem longer than it really was. There was nothing that grabbed my attention and I found myself not caring who the bad guy was less than halfway through.
Eastwood was ordinary in his performance - a cop walking that fine line between father and cop and a sleaze with a taste for the nightlife. He was anything but spectacular, which is a shame. The supporting cast did little to provide any sort of support and were little more than window dressing.
This movie lacked anything that could be considered a redeeming quality. Dirty Harry fans: Don't waste your time on this bomb, as you'll only walk away disappointed.
