Review of Tightrope (1984) by Dustin G — 09 Apr 2010
Definitely a misstep in the Eastwood film cannon, Tightrope is an easily forgotten poorly made, silly thriller featuring a very sexed up Clint Eastwood character and taking place in seedy sex dives in New Orleans.
The movie itself is a good idea story wise, but here's the thing:
You have older movies that were great when they came out, but don't age well. You have older movies that were great and still are, standing the test of time, and you have Tightrope. An older movie that wasn't very good to begin with AND hasn't aged well.
Eastwood's been better, Tuggle went on to do nothing, the dialogue's cheesy and contrived, the directing's shite, the final chase/showdown is dull and then completely ludicrous. This is a bad movie folks.
Closing on a lighter note, Alison Eastwood was really good as the older daughter. So that's something.
