Review of Tigerland (2000) by Dylan D — 16 Sep 2006
Tigerland was a film that required me to think over each event I witnessed. I had difficulties discovering whether the film was an enormous success, or a pathetic excuse for a war film. It was shot in a very low budget style, but one cannot argue the fact that the shaky camera angles provided a sense of realism and accuracy.
The performances themself, were fantastic, but very odd at how a low budget characer study could launch Colin Farrell's career. Parts of Tigerland were very difficult to watch, and extremely intense, but I felt that I learned the anxieties and hardships of the military camps without ever having to see battle.
It is a nice little filim, but mostly suited for those who have a certain taste for films. It appealed to me in ways of its harsh exchanges of dialogue, and unique style of filmmaking for Joel Schumacher.
Tigerland succeeds for what it was trying to achieve, and it wasn't too bad for a very low budget military film.
