Review of Tideland (2005) by Lorenzo V — 11 Nov 2008
This is definitely one of those movies that people either hate or love. I'm in the latter part. I think Gilliam is a great storyteller and his films are all special in their own way. This movie is basically a version of Alice in Wonderland if it was written by Charles Manson.
It is crazy, in your face, harsh, disturbing and all of that but it is still in its heart about a girl struggling to survive in the real world by living in her own dream one. I have to say, the kid did an awesome job.
It is always hard to put the movie in the hands of a little kid, but her performance carried the film. If there is something Gilliam does with his films is make you think and he does it well here.
