Review of Tideland (2005) by Sausages M — 21 Nov 2010
Delightfully disturbing look at life as seen through the eyes of a child presented in an Alice-In-Wonderland format. Jodelle Ferland is masterful and is surely destined for great things, since she carried the whole film in all its filth and fury, effortlessly.
Quite the oddest film I've seen in some time, but Gilliam pulls it off, just. Disgusting and wonderful all at once, it's a real test for the imagination, pushing at the boundaries of taste but utlimately the direction cleverly manages to convey the idea of how we all weave narratives for ourselves, and how ours and a child's might differ.
That's what pulls this film from 3 star entertainment to 4.
