Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Jonathan F — 12 Feb 2008
A fun litte Dystopian flick, where the people are all drugged and living underground, their emotions supressed. A bit of an "artsy" attempt for Lucas, being one of his first works (ie, some may find boring).
But I was drawn in, one of the only movies I watched twice before returning. You could really see where Lucas was heading towards with this, even recognize some of the sound effects he reused later in the Star Wars movies.
The citizens of this world move around doing weird tasks that don't always make sense, although what woud a medieval peasant think of us spending time in front of the computer and driving around in cars? The chase scene in the end is worth the wait, and there's a funny little cameo by a younger, thinner Sid Haig.
(Captain Spalding in House of a Thousand Corpses and The Devil's Rejects) Also a weird cyber masturbation scene with none other than Robert Duvall.
