Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Paul J — 29 Sep 2009
George Lucas' first film is a fascinating and artsy sci-fi film that has only improved with time (and the help of a director's cut). Every frame is actually sheer perfection. Murch's sound design is flawless and what I love most about this ambiguous film is how it's not just ABOUT the future, it appears FROM the future.
So many details are left unexplained but nevertheless they remain highly intriguing. It's not as if this kind of story has never been told before, it's just that Lucas told it in a way that is so precise and intellectually stimulating.
True sci-fi done to perfection.
