Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Troy F — 27 Jan 2010
I wanted to appreciate this movie, but it was hard. This is George Lucas' directorial debut if I'm correct. Now the futuristic style and imagery reminded me of The Island in a way, but just a little.
Aside from that, this style was quite interesting and original, and well done for it's time. Some parts grabbed my attention while I found quite a few parts to be dull and a little strange. The end sequence was quite good though.
Now not that this is bad, but I must admit this movie could only appeal to such a limited audience who likes a particular style of science fiction, like this movie, which is why I suppose it is underrated.
Yes, I suppose it deserves a little more attention as a classic somewhat, but no, it's not better than George Lucas' Star Wars and is a short of being a masterpiece. I give my respects to it though.
