Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Gavin S — 30 May 2011
The first half of this movie drags, but I realize it has to set the stage to show us what the society is like. It becomes obvious very early on that Black and White colour scheme is Lucas' favourite for the future.
Thank god someone put him onto colour later on. Impressive visual film, especially when it gets into the escape part of the film. Dialogue, as many well know, is not a Lucas strong point. This being his first film, take with a grain of salt.
An important movie for sure, in showing the beginnings of a major moviemaker and his vision(s). Don't expect something like Star Wars, because there's not nearly all that much going on. Interesting for sure, but unless you're a SciFi fan or want to investigate where Lucas got started, probably avoid this.
