Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Anthony L — 09 Feb 2009
George lucas, He gave us star wars, then Indiana Jones, and since? well he basically re-releases his greatest hits from the 70's and 80's all touched up with new aged GCI effects for the "that looks so fake" generation.
THX-1138 is a rare treat, a george lucas movie for adults. A pretty as 2001, as smart as anything by phillip K Dick and only slightly less impressive in the visual effects department than Blade runner.
1971 was a good overall year for cinema, A clockwork orange, Get carter, The french connection, Dirty harry and strawdogs so I guess THX-1138 Is at the bottom of that particular list, but at least it made it there at all.
Sometimes painstaking and corny but other times exciting and deep, this is my personal favorite of all George lucas' efforts with probably the best performances and dialouge to date of all his movies.
