A stark sci-fi film from an interesting period of American cinema, where the young collegiate minds were given the keys to the studios to make whatever movie that made the big wigs money... Instead, they get this detached, low-plot, "idea" movie with an incredible visual style and sound design...
I haven't seen the original cut of the movie, but the newly released Directors Cut is great, with effects and alterations that are not too distracting and fit right into the framework of the movie...
