Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Blind P — 05 Sep 2010
Heavily referencing Huxley's Brave New World in form of soma-like health care, decanted fetus jars, and savages living outside the pristine city; and mixing in some bathroom surveillance and psycho-analysis booths reminding one of Orwell's Big Brother, it is a hodge podge of dystopian future ideas expressed with more effective depth in the novels. As a film there is introduced the love story angle that works within the framework but isn't wholly inspiring either.
It did surprise me as a I always thought it had lesser production values on level of a student film. I enjoyed it for what it was, and admire its attempt more than its execution.
