Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Jesse C — 21 Feb 2009
With no designated evil character, an often complete change in atmosophere, and lack of solid dialgoue, it is easy to get lost in THX 1138--in a bad way. Lucas very much shows the signs of a post-film student from UCLA who is trying to make a point, such as an ode to Allegory of the Cave at the end and many typical anti-utopian elements including the anti-sex, anti-love motive, the robots interacting with each other and the various groups formed in rebellion (in this one only strange dwarfs that lived in the pipes.).
DON'T watch it unless you're a. a huge Lucas fan b. are a fan of cinema, not movies.
C. have nothing else to do...
