Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Chris W — 12 Feb 2012

The first film of George Lucas is a take on a Orwellian-esque future. Therein, lies the weakness and that is the story. There is no comparison to other dystopian stories of the future. The storyline in THX 1138 feels weaker.

Also, the mis en scene is weak as well as this consists of mostly white backdrops everywhere. Some of the look of this film is just boring. That aside, we can definitely see Lucas tinkering with looks (costumes of his characters) and sounds which would propel him forward while making Star Wars.

This is worth a watch being his first film and there are interesting ideas here. Its just not great.
