Review of THX 1138 (1971) by Carlos K — 08 May 2012
By the masses for the masses.
THX lives in a futuristic society that is heavily automated, observed, maintained, and governed. There is little flexibility in his lifestyle and the human race is treated like cattle to contribute to society. THX questions his relationship with his wife, the food he eats, and the meaningfulness of existence. As he digs into the depths of the rationale on why things are the way they are, the rulers attempt to deflect his efforts.
"She seemed to think you weren't accurately mated in the first place.".
George Lucas, director of American Graffiti, Star Wars, Star Wars: A Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, delivers THX-1138. The storyline for this picture is quite compelling and delivered very well. The plot reminded me a little of Logan's Run. The acting was very good and the cast includes Robert Duvall, Donald Pleasence, Marshall Efron, and Sid Haig.
"Everything is fine. You are in my hands. You have nowhere to go.".
THX-1138 is a movie I saw while scrolling through pictures on Amazon Prime and decided to give it a shot. I really enjoyed the premise and execution of this film and felt it had just the right amount of drama and mystery. Duvall is excellent in this picture and the overall outcome is very good (although common for this genre). Overall, I definitely recommend seeing this picture and it wouldn't be a bad film to have in your DVD collection.
"They're watching us. I can feel it.".
Grade: B.
