Review of Thuppakki (2012) by Akshay R — 22 Dec 2012
The movie is entertaining, but definitely overrated. The reason for that is because the story might be somewhat different than the usual cliche Tamil movies, but it isn't that original nor intelligent. It tries to be intelligent and cunning, but scenes such as how the villain could know where the "guys in suits" could come from, make no sense unless the villain is clairvoyant. Don't business men etc. wear suits in India or what? Another silly thing was the way the hero decodes the dotted map. It was unrealistic.
The cast was good. Vijay performed well and I loved Vidyut. Kajal's role was a typical romance role, which could have been excluded from the movie. They could have used that time to create more depth to the story. The ending was typical; a stand off between the hero and the villain and you just know the hero will have superpowers and kick the villains ass.
Predictable, typical Tamil action movie love story, typical Tamil movie fights...nonetheless entertaining, but don't have high hopes.
