Review of Thunderheart (1992) by Steve J — 28 May 2008
Beautifully shot on Pine Ridge Res in the heart of Lakota territory. A tough story of politics, vested interests and, no, the good guys don't really win. The screenplay has some very funny dialogue ..Kilmer is described as a "Washington Redskin ".
It really despicts the modern day plight (up the the early eighties anyway) of the Sioux nation and their treatment.
Some of the early scenes are harrowing. Shepard plays his role very well indeed and what a nasty (if typical) character he is.
As for the Tribal Police .. I suggest you check out Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee and find out who murdered Sitting Bull.
Nothing changes.
