Review of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) by Paul P — 07 Dec 2008
One of my favourite Clint films. The scenery is gorgeous, the dialogue is fun and the characters and events that spur the film along are well plotted.
This is solid work from Cimino that is often underrated which is a shame. It's also the closest to an ensemble movie that Clint has been involved in. The relationships between our 4 main players (Clint, Jeff, George and Geoffrey) are complex and intriguing and the cast are first rate portraying this. Clint puts in some of his best work here. The partnership between him and Jeff is awesome. Whilst Jeff will forever be known as the Dude, I think that this is his finest work. He has such an energy and presence which is balanced out nicely in the moving closing scenes that are so sad and memorable.
I really love this film...
