Review of Thunderbirds Are GO (1966) by Rick R — 05 May 2009
Thunderbirds Are Go (1966).
I haven't seen this movie since I was a little kid, and watching it again brought back a lot of memories. One thing that I was impressed with was the whole 1960's, James Bond, space-age look of the movie. We were drinking our Tang and it seemed like science and technology would save the day and solve all of our problems. When perhaps it was the brave marionettes of the International Rescue Team that would do that for us.
The movie spends a lot of time showing us the elaborate space crafts and mechanical devices that would be the way of the future. Why climb a ladder when you can have an elaborate conveyor belt whisk you away where you need to go?
As far as technically, the movie's miniaturization and the way the character's mouths move with out a sign of seams or strings was amazing. I know, it's pretty campy, but they played it so serious. After seeing this, I think that I'm ready to see Trey Parker's "Team America - World Police".
