Review of Thunderball (1965) by Eric O — 07 Oct 2012
So many things to say about this movie: (1) a lot of the negative things about some of the newer Bond-movies appear to start here - too much focus on being high-budget, having much of the plot be confusing just for confusion's sake, forgoing originality in plot/script, and an over-dependence on gadgets.
(2) though the climactic underwater fight scene was a VERY valiant effort and even well-executed all things considering, the curse of the mostly-underwater movie is too strong. (3) it's an oddity to me that, so far, Dr.
No has stood the test of time the best, whereas each subsequent Bond-film does slightly worse in that respect. (4) Bond handing the girl her shoes in the bathtub when she asks for something to wear is quite possibly the best Bond moment yet.
