Review of Thunder Road (1958) by Ted W — 05 Apr 2013
Quite an enjoyable film about moonshiners. It has a similar storyline to the recent film Lawless. Robert Mitchum and his real life son Jim play brothers, one on the right and one on the wrong side of the law.
Gene Barry is the fed trying to shut down illegal whiskey. A lot of it is set around Memphis and this is 1957 so there's a little bit of a rock 'n roll element but mostly the soundtrack is faux-hillbilly as are the accents.
Trust me I've lived in Kentucky; mountain people don't talk like that. There s a 'Thunder Road' theme song written by Mitchum. He ain't no Springsteen. The cars are great and the stunts are well executed.
