Review of Throw Momma from the Train (1987) by Dave H — 02 Feb 2010
Beautifully directed, if a little too "safe" to be truly black comedy (ala Devito's War of the Roses), this gets by on the substantial goofball charm of the two leads, both at the top of their games, and of course on Ramsey redoing her grotesque Goonies schtick with gutso.
Apart from some inspired moments from her, and from the oddball writing students, this ain't THAT funny, but it's a cute curiosity in its Hitchcockian homage bits - both in lensing and its darkly perceptive winks at age-old "motive".
