Review of Throw Momma from the Train (1987) by Jennifer A — 07 Apr 2006
I'm beginning the rather lengthy task of entering into the database every film I have seen, at least those I have a decent memory of. Some may have the briefest of reviews while many will just have a number. Those films that I consider personal favorites and/or those that have some historical signficance I will add later when I have time for more lengthy reviews.
Throw Momma From the Train, directed by and starring Danny DeVito, is a dark comedy about a murder for hire. Also stars Billy Crystal and Anne Ramsey as the memorable Momma.
Turner & Hooch, directed by Roger Spottiswoode, stars Tom Hanks as a detective investigating a murder. The only witness is a dog named Hooch. The two bond as Hanks tries to solve the crime. It's a pretty lightweight, forgettable comedy, a typical role for Hanks before he became a huge star.
Torch Song Trilogy, directed by Paul Bogart, is the screen adaptation of Harvey Fierstein's broadway hit. Fierstein stars as Arnold Beckoff, also known as nightclub performer Virginia Hamm. The story is broken down into three acts, chronicling about ten years, shwoing Arnold's significant relationships. The film co-stars Matthew Broderick, Anne Bancroft, Karen Young and Brian Kerwin.
