Review of Throw Momma from the Train (1987) by Danielle S — 27 Jun 2008
Danny DeVito plays Owen, who lives with his cruel, mean, and downright vile mother named Mrs. Lift (Anne Ramsey) who plays this character as a straight up villain who talks like she has a mouthful of marbles.
Owen's teacher is Larry Donner played by the funny Billy Crystal. He's going through a messy divorce, and is angry that is wife has wrote a book that he claims to have written and gone onto major success.
He spends a good chunk of his time trying to write a new book to jump-start his career but he has little success in doing so. Owen accidentally mistakes some of Larry's advice and thinks he is telling him that if he kills his wife, Larry will in turn kill his mother.
So that way neither will get caught and they will do the others murder. This is of course from the famous plot on Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train".
