Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by Richard S — 01 Nov 2007
Dark, disturbing and disturbed, this is a seminal interpretation of Macbeth and it's easy to see why. Dread, moral confusion, and tragedy loom large in the syrupy fog and desolate sets. Offset by Mifune's hyperkinetic intensity, it really is an astonishing film. Also, 'Lady Macbeth' is incredible too, almost stealing the show. Kurosawa's camera work in this is second to none and his shots of Lady Macbeth collecting the poison is genuinely otherworldly.
Well, I could go on for ages but this is incredible.
