Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by Jon G — 03 Nov 2007
With all due respect to Orson Welles, Roman Polanski and others who have tried to stage impressive adaptations of Macbeth (except that god awful 90's movie Men of Respect), this is the definitive version of the Shakespeare tragedy.
This profound, poetic, and mystifying take on the Scottish king was directed by the Emperor of cinema, Akira Kurosawa, and it showcases all of what made him imperial in filmdom. The film has scandal, murder, witchcraft.
..all that and an arrow through the throat.
