Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by John M — 25 May 2009
Kurosawa's Macbeth transported into feudal Japan.
A very well-shot film with a great performance from Toshiro Mifune. Unfortunately it is a bit stagey for a Kurosawa film, with the character motivations taking second place to the needs of the Shakespearean plot. The result is a little less believable than one of Kurosawa's masterpieces.
An excellent film but not one of Kurosawa's best.
