Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by Scott R — 07 Nov 2017
That uneasy and high pitched squeal of the flute music at the beginning of the film pretty much sets the tone fro everything.
I love how this movie doesn't take itself too seriously. The characters almost seem to have this charm about them. At times, there are moments, which I think aren't intentional, that are funny just by the way the characters speak. But that being said, this movie is very atmospheric and eerie. The scene with the the old man spinning the wheel made me pretty damn uneasy.
Brilliant how Kurosawa filmed this movie. The different techniques they used we're well ahead of their time. There's some scenes in this movie that keep you guessing whether what your watching is real or if it's just a dream.
The creepy phantoms and eerie feel of this movie lends itself well to the whole ghost story adaptation of Shakespeare's play. The way the phantoms loom in the scenes and how atmospheric and haunting some of the images are make you think this movie is a horror movie. Let me tell you, never have trees looked so ominous and evil before.
Pretty crazy to see how treason unfolds and how your best friend can become your enemy all because of what your dumb wife said... Lol just kidding you should always pay attention to the crazy lady's prophecies.
Overall, amazing movie! I loved it! Will revisit.
