Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by Braden A — 29 Dec 2006
Toshiro Mifune has been one of my favorite actors since I saw him in Yojimbo and Sanjuro, and now Throne of Blood further justifies my feeling sof him being one of the strongest actors ever, with an undeniable screen presence.
I am having a lot of trouble deciding whether I like this more than Ran, Kurosawa's other adaptation of Shakespeare. Both are so different in terms of style and storytelling mechanics, it's hard to say.
What I will say, though, is that I am totally in awe of Throne of Blood, and I have no second thoughts in calling it a masterpiece and giving it the first 10/10 rating I have given in a long time.
