Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by Gianni V — 21 Jun 2010
I can see how some people would love this film, but I'm really glad it wasn't any longer. Comparing it to contemporary films is very difficult because I feel like the pacing of films has increased at a similar rate to the pace of civilization as a whole.
We live in a world of instant gratification, and that's reflected in modern filmmaking a majority of the time. On the contrary, Throne of Blood is SLOW. Were the same film made today, I imagine the length could be cut in half.
For me, this is the type of film you watch late at night when you have nothing better to do. That said, I enjoyed it, and it actually gave me some interesting ideas for my own future films, so that's good.
