Review of Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973) by Brian P — 01 Jan 2011
A different take on the Cinderella story, that works wonderfully.Based on objective terms it's not a good movie, but the charm and grace of it, makes it hard not to enjoy the experience.
You have the basic evil stepmom -not being allowed to attend the royal ball-and eventually winning the prince storyline. But in between that we see a much more proactive type of Cinderella(Libuse Safrankova)here. Competing with the prince on his own terms, in a crossbow contest among other things.Another change is that the Fairies are replaced by three magical acorns, and a wise old owl.The spirit and the romance of the story however, remains intact.Despite it being a Czech movie, watching it has actually become part of our more recent Christmas traditions in Norway.
