Review of Three to Tango (1999) by Giffy G — 03 Jun 2008
This is one of those movies from the bizarre "a straight, white, middle-class, Christian male learns something important by pretending to not be one of those" genre (other examples include A Gentleman's Agreement, Black Like Me, and Trading Places).
At best, these movies are careful, delightful, and effective at spreading a message (Like A Gentleman's Agreement). At worst, they're rather offensive and propagate the myth that white men have it hard.
This movie was a cute romantic comedy, and I wish that was all it was. The gay part REALLY detracted from this movie, and it was one of the main plot points. When this movie wasn't addressing gay issues in its own ham-handed way, it was delightful and charming.
When it was addressing gay issues... I just wanted to stop watching.
