Review of Three Monkeys (2008) by Marija S — 13 Apr 2009
A film of sudden revelations and surprises, usually of the nasty variety... These shocks aren't to say Ceylan has cut out his usual, slightly infuriating longueurs, and the turbulence going on beneath the surface of his characters' relationships again tends to manifest itself - as it did in "Climates" - in rough sex, about which I'm not so keen.
Still, his attention to the widescreen business of landscape and meteorological conditions is here once again matched by his eye (and ear) for detail, sound in particular. It's a noir in Dolby, made by a craftsman who takes his time somewhat, but really does know how to get the most of the tools at his disposal.
