Review of Three Kings (1999) by Skyler I — 23 Jun 2011
I found this film almost impossible not to like. George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube and Spike Jonze all give great performances as US soldiers searching for stolen gold to keep for themselves. There's a lot of good humor and emotion here, but it never steps into the dreaded realm of the Cheesy, if you will.
It's surprisingly believable, too - every single event in this film seems like it could happen, and I wouldn't be surprised if it did, either. It's riveting, kinetic and humorous. It's a really great, well-made drama/comedy/war film.
David O Russell is a fantastic director.
