Review of Three Kings (1999) by Innokenty L — 17 Dec 2013
One of the best movies dealing with the first Gulf war, it is far better than many other movies dealing with the subject. While it is by no means a documentary (the story is pure fiction), it accurately depicts US military life in terms of the boredom and stupidity spawned from that boredom.
Basically to summarize the plot four American soldiers from all walks of life concieve a plot to steal Gold that Saddam Hussein siezed from Kuwait after finding a map with it's location in the anus of a Iraqi POW (instead of turning that information in to their superiors).
In the ensuing Chaos we are exposed to the horrors of Saddam's crackdown on the various uprisings that took place immediately after the Gulf war (many of which were encouraged by the US) and how America left the Iraqi people to Saddam's mercy (this is all based on facts).
The four soldiers end up coming to some very difficult moral decisions: do they help the Iraqi people who are being massacred or take the money and run? The acting is superb from top to bottom (although I felt George Clooney was not the best fit for his character), one of the most memorable performances was Said Taghmaoui as Cpt.
Sa'id. An overwall great moie I highly recommend watching it.
