Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Facebook U — 10 Jan 2018
I had high hopes for 'Three Billboards'. Sam Rockwell and Frances McDormand are two of my favorite actors, and Martin McDonough's past work has really interested me from what I've seen, although I've never watched one of his films all the way through.
To my surprise, I spent the first thirty minutes of this one to be enjoyable, but lacking a proper flow. The editing felt choppy and, while the characters were great, the scenes didn't feel fully realized.
And then, all of a sudden, the story really picks up and it becomes this rule-breaking, hilarious and thrilling (dare I say) romp. It went from a, "It was good, but nothing to write home about," kind of movie to a, "Holy moly, I need to buy the Blu-ray immediately!" This is an instant classic, I can't wait to watch it again.
