Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Guillermo G — 05 Mar 2018
There is a great deal of politico/cultural sickness sloshing around the world (Donald Trump and Brexit among the most conspicuous examples in the West), and this film is a small but very successful token.
On the back of an extraordinary performance by Frances McDormand (who can win an Oscar acting the Yellow Pages), it peddles a sick message of taking justice in your own hands and committing acts of extraordinary violence on that basis, without any consequences.
The justice system, of which the police is part, is the lynchpin of civilized life. If America's is so rotten that this film is a fair reflection of reality and the only road available to people to get fair treatment, then Trump is not a problem, is the way of the future.
