Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Maria D — 11 Mar 2018
I viewed this after the oscar awards as some actors/actresses won for their work. the movie itself was simply good - not great - not bad. the story itself is really flat for the most part and it's a movie that relies heavily on actors to develop real-life every day characters in a way that makes it a profound and telling experience for the viewer.
it is undeniable that frances mcdormand is a great actress as I have seen her in many other roles where she should have won an oscar for. so, while she was very good in this role, I just don't think this role (not the actress) is oscar-worthy.
she is simply, due to her style, perfect for this particular film and particular role. I think in that case the award should go to the casting director. there are far more roles and characters out there that are much more challenging than this.
so that said, what was a stand-out character acted out in a stand-out way - was sam rockwell. I can see why he won.
