Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Cam S — 21 Mar 2018
Contrived plotting aimed at garnering Oscar nominations. Great performances let down by incongruous plotline coincidences e.g. would Dixon really have been put in the same hospital ward-room as Red? Maybe what is on show is how a non-American liberal views current-day USA: rugged individualism (the tough take-no-shit Mom, the top cop topping himself), constant f-bombing and extreme violence reflecting how Americans communicate with each other.
Scores low on nuance and finesse. Even so, way way better than the dire The Shape of Water (Oscar Best film?! Give me a break!).
