Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Davidwashere — 30 Jan 2018
One of the most intense and harrowing films of 2017. With fantastic acting all around from our three main leads, with high praise for Sam Rockwell and Francis McDormand, and solid directing from Martin McDonagh, Three Billboards is a stark look at justice and how uneasy and often brutal it is, especially when it comes with wanting justice for heinous crimes.
People have been up at arms with how the movie wants to "sympathizes with racist cops" when they are missing the point. It's not about sympathy but understanding that with two extremes you don't want to be on their sides, illustrating how extremes can not solve any problem, no matter where it ranks on the moral injustice scale.
