Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Lauren M — 27 Dec 2017
Oh man.. I had to make an account just to get this off my chest. This movie has so many amazing actors who really seem to be giving it their all. It's unfortunate that their efforts are wasted on this messy script that's littered with nonsensical events, dialogue that tries way too hard to be funny/witty, and characters that are so dumb and implausible that they are basically caricatures.
All of this takes away from the pretty compelling story and its heavy subject matter. I get that witty, vulgar dialogue is something this director is known for, but when the subject matter is this dark and there are so many scenes that don't really move the plot along, it kind of loses its punch and starts to feel tiresome.
I guess the critics saw something I didn't? Like.. it's not a horrible movie by any means. I like the themes of dealing with anger and how no one is really the "good guy." Now, excuse me, I'm going to walk across the street and throw someone out a window.
.. in broad daylight... across from the police station. Should be fine though because I'm a cop. That's how that works, right?
