Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Compi24 — 12 Dec 2017
A film that could have very easily became a bloated, stodgy, and tired treatise on everything that's wrong with the American justice system/racism/police brutality/etc., but thankfully Martin McDonagh's third feature, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," never really commits to focusing too sharply on one thing in particular.
Instead, we get little doses of criticism and commentary here and there, but with a larger spotlight shown on the complicated, non-binary mechanisms of human morality and behavior that operate in and around these facets of discussion.
It's tremendously well-acted, with special marks going to Frances McDormand and the criminally underrated Sam Rockwell for absolutely killing it with their respective performances. A very compelling, well-made drama with rich thematic subtext and a fantastic script.
